Nutrients

Bevko has several products that contain nutrients that aid in balancing mood:

  • Omega-3 Fish Oils: There is a growing number of studies to support the consideration for use of omega-3 fatty acids in mood disorders, particularly with bipolar disorder and general depression.
  • SAM-e: A derivative of L-methionine, SAM-e has a number of well-documented positive effects on mood.
  • B-12 Plus Folic Acid: A deficiency in B12 can cause impaired mental functioning (not unlike Alzheimer’s) and depression.
  • B-Complex 50: B vitamins are necessary for many functions in the body, including mood balance. Certain deficiencies of B vitamins can lead to a multitude of problems.

Diet

  • Follow an alkaline diet, which is plant-based foods.
  • Avoid sugars, caffeine, and alcohol.
  • Some people with mood disorders find that eating a low-carb diet is helpful.
  • People with anxiety should eat frequent meals to avoid hypoglycemia.

Lifestyle

  • Exercise can provide many benefits for people experiencing difficulties with mood. Exercise releases endorphins, a natural morphine-like chemical that make one feel calm and content. Single bouts of exercise can reduce anxiety for up to several hours. But the best benefits have been shown to follow aerobic or more vigorous exercise, such as swimming or biking. These benefits are more fully shown after a couple of weeks of regular exercise (especially if exercise is done several times a week).
  • Foster positive self esteem.
  • Get plenty of restful sleep.
