Product Description:

Melaserine is a Bevko Vitamins exclusive product that is a combination of melatonin and phosphatidylserine, two important compounds that directly affect the body's sleep-wake cycles and mental functioning.*

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone that's produced in the pineal gland (a small gland in the brain), and it helps regulate sleep and wake cycles. Everyone's body has its own internal clock that helps regulate their circadian rhythm, the natural cycle of sleeping and waking. Because the synthesis and release of melatonin are stimulated by darkness and suppressed by light, this suggests that melatonin plays a huge role in regulating our circadian rhythms.*

Usually, melatonin levels begin to rise in the mid- to late evening, stay high for most of the night, and then decline in the early morning hours. This goes along with most people's normal sleep schedules.*

However, natural melatonin production is partly affected by light and age.

  • Light- during the shorter days in winter, melatonin production may start earlier or later. This change can lead to symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). And because darkness stimulates melatonin release, those who work the night shift tend to have disrupted circadian rhythms and may need to take melatonin supplements to be able to sleep.*

  • Age - natural melatonin levels decline gradually with age. Some older adults produce very small amounts of melatonin (or none at all). This explains why many older adults have disrupted sleep patterns and usually go to bed and wake up earlier than when they were younger.*

Melatonin production decreases with age in both men and women. Like all other hormones, it diminishes with menopause as well. For this reason, menopausal women may particularly benefit by taking melatonin supplements like Melaserine to help with the sleeplessness that often accompanies menopause.*

Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine, or PS, is an essential part of all our body's cells; it's a major component of the cell membrane that keeps cells intact and moves nutrients and waste into and out of the cell. *

Evidence from numerous studies suggests that supplementing with PS can help with declining mental function and depression in the elderly, and it's widely used for this purpose in Europe. More specifically, PS is said to be helpful for those with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of age-related mental decline.*

In studies of severe mental decline, PS appears to have been equally effective whether the cause was Alzheimer's disease or something like multiple small strokes. The conclusion, then, is that PS may have a positive impact on the brain that's not specific to any certain condition.*

With this knowledge, it's not a huge stretch to assume that PS may be helpful for those with much less severe memory and mental cognition problems. PS can be considered a "brain booster" that sharpens memory and increases thinking ability for people of all ages.*

PS also helps the brain regulate the amount of cortisone produced by the adrenal glands. High cortisone levels are associated with high stress levels - people who can't sleep at night because of stress often have too much cortisone. Because PS regulates the cortisone, it also can act as a sleeping aid along with melatonin.*

Glycine

  • Glycine is a  simple amino acid used as the backbone of a number of innate biological compounds such as growth hormone.
  • Glycine helps build muscle tissue and converts glucose into energy.  It also serves as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, slowing or weakening impulses between nerves.
  • Glycine can be made inside of the liver but can be depleted in the setting of folic acid deficiency or used up quickly in other processes
  • There is some evidence to suggest that glycine can enhance sleep quality.

Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement, take one (1) capsule 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime or as recommended by your physician or health care professional.
