Weight Control

It’s no secret that the U.S. has been given the distinction of being called the fattest country in the world, and deservedly so. Americans eat too much of all the wrong foods, and we exercise too little to deal with normal calorie intake. So it’s no wonder that we are also a nation that is obsessed with dieting and weight loss. But weight loss isn’t just an aesthetics issue; it is also a serious health concern. Obesity can lead to many forms of disease (heart attack, stroke, non-insulin diabetes mellitus, etc.) and physical impairment . . .

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight doesn’t happen overnight through fad diets, weight-loss drugs, or other such methods. The prescription (balanced diet and exercise) is simple, but it requires commitment and patience. And natural supplements can help, but they won’t work unless you combine them with a program of balanced diet and regular exercise.

Bevko products that can help with weight loss:

  • Lipoic Acid: Known as the universal antioxidant because it is both water soluble and fat soluble. Lipoic acid has also been shown to help with weight loss. One of Bevko’s most popular products!
  • GlucoProcess: Contains chromium and vanadium for blood sugar control.
  • Multivitamin Forte: A good multivitamin formula is important to overall health.
  • Bone and Minerals Complex: A good mineral complex is also essential to overall health.

A balanced diet plays a crucial part in achieving and maintaining weight loss:

  • Follow a low-fat diet that emphasizes plant foods (for fiber). The alkaline diet is an ideal diet rich in plant foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.
  • For protein, eat nonfat yogurt, poached fish, and skinless chicken.
  • Drink eight to twelve 8-oz. glasses of pure water daily. Water is necessary for good health in general, and it is invaluable for achieving weight loss.
  • Drink green and white teas. Green tea promotes weight loss by increasing the rate at which the body burns energy, but has only a fraction of the caffeine found in black tea or coffee. White tea has been used in China and other countries for centuries. But the health benefits of this mild tea have just recently begun to be touted in the medical community. White tea has three times the antioxidants found in green tea, has all the benefits of green tea (including promoting weight loss), and it is the least processed of all teas.
  • Avoid high-fat dairy; red meat, pork, and fatty poultry; and processed meats, oils, and margarine.
  • Avoid bad carbohydrates that trigger a quick release of insulin. Bad-carbohydrate foods include breads, processed grains, starchy vegetables (potatoes, winter squash, corn), desserts, and sweets.

  • Regular weight lifting and aerobic exercise are essential in reducing body fat. You should exercise at least three times a week.
Note: If you have led a sedentary lifestyle, consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
  • Find ways to add more activity in your daily routine. For example, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or walk to the grocery story instead of driving. Little bits of activity don’t burn many calories along, but they are cumulative in their effects when added to other physical activity.
